Wait, you didn't know the Cullen's are hired out nowadays? Haha! Just kidding...but we do love to lend a helping hand to any friends who are tackling similar DIY projects. Some of our Austin friends, the Larson family, asked us if we'd come over this past Saturday morning to help them lay out a Missoni chevron wall in their daughter Natalie's nursery. Obviously, I squealed in delight at the fact that a Missoni wall marries my two loves: interiors and fashion.
Also, Jenn (the Mom) told me she was googling 'how to paint a chevron wall' and our post HERE kept popping up in all her searches. Do you know how happy that makes us? We love hearing this sort of thing. So Jenn asked us if we could pop by and just make sure they were on the right track and get them started. We're always willing to help good friends. Read on for a semi-tutorial on how we tackled this amazing feat of interior nursery splendor!
PS - I just have to give a shout out to Jenn and what she does. She's runs The Bump Club here in Austin. With a tag-line that reads, 'Where Moms and Moms-to-Be Connect' and I couldn't agree more. I have met more wonderful Moms through Bump Club and absolutely enjoy all the events I've attended. If you're in Austin and are a Mom/Mom-to-be I just can't recommend it enough. One side-note though, don't do a Bump Club yoga event 2 1/2 weeks before your due date. Why? Click HERE to find out!
First up, the man checks out the plans. I can't really say there was a whole lot of 'we' in this helping process because Walt pretty much tackled it. No I wasn't in the corner sipping pina coladas and reading a magazine. Obviously I was tending to a plump and smiley little baby boy.
Jenn did an awesome job sketching out her plans and even provided measurements too.
Here's Walt marking the wall to start to lay out the master grid.

Little Bubs was getting in some morning playtime while his Daddy and Jenn got down to Missoni wall business. Why the big burp cloth/massive bib underneath our child all the time. Well he is king spitter upper. And this is nice new carpet. Those two are not a match made in heaven. PS - See that Willa Wonka type toy up there? Clutch for Nash's age...he loves that thing!
Jenn and Walt tag teaming the measurements and color layout scheme.
The vertical grid has been laid out, thanks to the handy dandy chalk line.

Someone got a little bit fussy britches so we borrowed the Larson's Stokke carrier (which, by the way, we're now jonesing for since it comfortably/safely carries Nash in the forward position) and we headed out on a little walk. My boy loves being outside so I knew this would take the teething fussiness right out of him.
While I was away the pint sized, red-headed superintendent stepped in and put her two cents in. As you can see, she's a busy little lady and wants to make sure that everything is perfectly laid out for her Missoni chevron nursery wall. Not to worry, she only busted out the whip a few times, ha!
'Did someone say tape measurer? I got it, right here, people!'
- Natalie, the Super
And look at how we can cruising back into the house! Yep, that Stokke carrier is baby sleeping magic. Nash passed out in no time and rested quietly while all these DIY shenanigans raced around him. Love, love that carrier!
One section of the grid is laid out and everyone is all smiles...except the Super. She's wondering why we're taking a photo break and why we're not getting back to work. Seriously, that pint sized boss meant business, people! Haha, seriously thought...is she not the cutest lil' thang?
We raced out the door to scarf down some lunch as I had a business meeting with one of my favorite Austin clients. Jenn, Kirk and Natalie were confident they would be able to tackle the rest of the project but we told them we were itching to see the progress throughout the next few days. We knew this was going to be quite the time-suck but absolutely worth it in the end. We love getting the below pics from Jenn over the next 48 hours.
Here's Kirk finishing up the taped off grid. Looks awesome, right?
The dark green has been added on top of the light grey fill in coat.

Turquoise in dah house!
Chartreuse can't be denied.
And voila...muy impressivo, right? We love the end product and you better be certain we'll head over there and photograph Natalie's entire nursery when all the furniture is moved in and the place is ready for some pint-sized ginger play dates! We can't wait to share the pics with you and show you the other great addition Jenn has added to her little lady love's nursery!
