When we were recently in Portland (more on that HERE), my sister made cupcakes for my nieces second birthday party. The kiddos even had a cupcake decorating station and you should've seen some of their adorable masterpieces. These cupcakes were so totally delish that I told my sister these were certainly going to make it on CC and even as a recipe of the week.
My sister also made a vanilla batch but the chocolate really stole the show. The chocolate have a tiny chocolate surprise in the center and as you can tell from the above image, they all make mouths happy! Read on, readers...for all the info on how to make these chocolate chunk surprise goodies!

Here's the book that the recipe came from...What's New, Cupcake! A great book with some amazing pointers, decorating tips and recipes. My sister got her version from her local library, which is always a greener option that purchasing the book.
This will be your new...bestest...cupcake...recipe...ever! I guarantee it!
There's the scrumptious frosting recipe above.
Last but not least, here's what you have to do to the regular cupcake recipe (above) to turn them into Chocolate Chunk Surprises!
After making the cupcake batter and using a big ziploc to squeeze the batter into each cup, my sister then unwrapped a tiny, single serving Milky Way and submerged it into the top of the batter. You can actually use any type of candy...but we really loved the Milky Way, so I'd highly suggest it!
You can see she's pushing each Milky Way down slightly so the top is level.
She then covered the remainder of the Milky Way with a tad more batter, as seen above.
Here's the delectable and seriously enticing finished products. They are sittin' pretty and ready to head to the party and be decorated by a ton of tiny tots!
My niece Minnie actually liked eating the decorations more than using them for cupcake decor, haha!
So my Mom (Minnie's 'Mimi') stepped in and helped her decorate her two cupcakes! We used the same 'mess-less' ziploc strategy with the icing as we did with the batter. It's a fool-proof, goof-proof method for icing and I'll never ice cupcakes with a knife again!
Everyone loved the cupcake decorating station and said how yummy the cupcakes and icing were!
Here's the awesome result of a very cool idea for a children's party!
This was just too yummy and way too much fun not to feature. Hope you enjoy the pics and try out this yummy new recipe. Let us know what you thought of it and if they fared just as well in your home as in ours. Cheers!
