Just wanted to take a minute and re-cap all that the CC Fam has been up to lately. So much has been going on around here that we thought sharing a few pics would best capture the great start to our summer season, right here in Austin, TX:
We had an absolute blast with other church members volunteering for Habitat for Humanity this past Saturday. We mentioned it HERE and the entire team worked really hard to get this great home further along than when we arrived that morning. I was on "Team Interior Trim" and CC Hubby was the hardest workin' man ever on "Team Fence Posts!"
I actually learned how to lay down trim from measuring to cutting to nailing it in (in the yellow shirt above) and I felt so accomplished after learning that trade. CC Hubby dug these huge holes for all the fence posts (he's the sweaty guy in the grey Texas shirt above me) and was literally covered in dirt by the end of the day. It was his first time doing Habitat for Humanity and he's already ready for our August project.
We had a sweet baby owl in our tree! It was a very exciting day around CC when hubby came home from work and exclaimed that there was a baby owl in the tree. I got as good a photo as I could and poor Zola Belle had no idea what we were looking at. She thought it was a squirrel so some growling ensued. We haven't seen this sweet owl since so I'm glad I snapped a quick pic. He was only about 4 inches tall!
One of our next door neighbors has grown one of the most enticing and delectable gardens you've ever laid eyes on. They told us to 'come on over' for some swiss chard and we were literally at their front door within 24 hrs. Here's the heaping bag that they gave us and we also got to talkin' with them about what plants grow best here in Texas. Then I got to thinkin' about some sort of neighbor garden sharing idea. The brainstorming started and since I'm a mover and a shaker...we might just start our own garden share club right here in the neighborhood. It'll have to be post-fall though since we've officially decided to plant our foot-by-foot garden then!
Pssst - if you're a fan on Facebook HERE you already know that we used THIS tutorial to cook the swiss chard. We later found out that we have one degree of separation from this particular blogger - small world!
My ladies group at Gateway South decided to gather the masses for a "Summer of Service." I'll do a bigger re-cap later on our Bags of Grace (featured above) but we're excited about all the awesomeness that comes from being charitable and serving your city. Brief synopsis: Bags of Grace are handed out to homeless people in lieu of money. They are a great way to not only impact that person on a greater level but also give them some snacks, water and toiletries that they might be in great need of. Above is my group leader Kelly and her adorable daughter Chase at our inaugural Bags of Grace packin' party!
Lastly, how awesome is this picture? We have officially semi-tackled the master bath! Popcorn scraper extraordinaire if featured above, sans safety glasses and mask! We removed the ghetto over sized mirror and primed all the trim, doors and walls white. We are still searching for that perfect shade of light blue or grey (we might opt for the same color we used in the kitchen/tv room HERE) for the master so we're holding off on revealing the great after pics just yet. I will tell you this, our new light fixtures and mirrors rock my world!
This chick-a-dee has a new writing gig! I'm now one of the writer's at Morgan's Deals and it's totally a coincidence that the site is named that...nothing to do with me, sheer coincidence. So what is Morgan's Deals all about anyways? It's very similar to Groupon with daily email deals that you can take or leave. We mentioned Groupon on CC HERE (please make sure to sign up if they're in your area HERE) but Morgan's Deals is just based in Austin. I actually get to go in and 'try out' all the deals first and then write them up when they launch. Sign up for the daily deals email if you're an Austinite on their homepage HERE.
I recently popped into Lick It, Bite It or Both and chatted it up with the owner, Jace. What a great and interesting guy who has really struck a chord with my sweet tooth. This shop specializes in homemade cupcakes paired with delish ice cream. The flavors were bonkers good and the ice cream was just beyond. We are really excited to be on board with this great company and can't wait to alert our Austin readers of any beyond stellar offers too!
So that's all...just wanted to keep you up to date on all we're doing round CasaCullen. Hope you enjoyed!
