This is kind of nerve-racking to share. I guess I just take pride in the order of our home and readers, the before pics in this post are juts shameful. Literally, suitcases stacked miles high and a stapled up sheet as a window covering. Yes, you read that correctly, stapled to the wall, compliments of my sister.
But, we did a recent re-haul when we had a string of sweet visitors. Taking different pieces of decor and functional accents from all over the house, I was able to create a serene, user-friendly and personalized guest bedroom in no time. Let me share some of my tricks here with you.
First up, you already know our love for some white faux wood blinds so adding them into this room seemed like an easy first fix. Plus, we had to relieve ourselves of that navy blue sheet...pronto! Next, we decided to not be lazy and actually properly store all of our suitcases in the attic and closet. Now it's on to the fun part - decorating!
CC hubs hung the mirror and white shelf that we had lying around on the big empty entrance wall. We already owned the two cube end tables so I just placed those next to the bed. The bed, sweet readers, is actually a queen Aero air mattress...secrets, secrets. We figured this is a great in-between until we find the perfect guest bed. Believe me, that sucker is comfy!
Additional accents that added some sweet personal touches are fresh flowers, those great blue tapers and that Napa Valley poster. A little secret about that frame for you too. CC hubs was trying to frame some gorgeous water images for the guest bathroom and BAM...he broke the glass. He felt horrible because heading back to IKEA is quite a trek for us. I told him not to worry, that I'd figure something out. I was throwing around the idea of chalkboard paint or framed fabric (more on that later this week) but then I stumbled upon this poster in a box and knew it was made for that frame. So a glass-less framed poster now graces the guest wall.
The only other two addition that were purchased in the last few weeks are the adorable shabby chic trunk and the big basket at Goodwill. I knew I wanted an oversize basket to place my grandmother's gorgeous quilt in and the trunk will provide added storage and is a makeshift suitcase holder for our visitors. The one last thing I'm desperately seeking are window treatments. I'm thinking about doing a great print so I've gathered a fantastic array of window treatment ideas, in addition to other great artistic touches below, for your viewing pleasure. Including some additional touches of white for that room too!
Also, do you have any great before and after images you'd like to share with us? Email me the images at casacullen@gmail.com and you might just see your digs on the site. And, please give me any design pointers on our guest bedroom too. I'd love input on window treatment colors or any other of your own personal low-cost design ideas.
